About Lombok
Lombok is one of the 17,504 islands that formed the so-called Indonesian Archipelago. Located in the West Nusa Tenggara Province, with Lombok strait separating it from Bali to the west and the Alas Strait between it and Sumbawa to the east, Lombok differ greatly in their natural productions from Bali.
The people produces their own tobacco, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, yams, beans and Indian corn, robusta coffee, cotton, chili, and of course rice as the main food. Most of Lombok districts are so beautiful and well cultivated especially on the north closer to Mount Rinjani.
The volcano offers superb view from magnificent objects at sunrise and sunset, when they rise out of the mists and clouds that surround their bases, glowing with the rich and changing hints of charming tropical days. Being the third highest mountain, second highest volcano in Indonesia 3,726 metres (12,224 ft), Rinjani has attract thousands of people every year to climb it. Data of Mount Rinjani National Park shows at least 89,000 tourists have climbed this active volcano until 2016.
The island is inhabited by 85 % Sasak, whose origins are thought to have migrated from Java in the first millenium BC. Other residents include an estimated 10-15% Balinese, with the small remainder being Tionghoa-Peranakan, Javanese, Sumbawanese and Arab-Indonesians.
Lombok is marketed as "an unspoiled Bali". With support from the central government, Lombok and Sumbawa, along together with Papua are being developed as Indonesia's second destination for international and domestic tourism. Lombok has retained a more natural, uncrowded and undeveloped environment, which attract travellers who come for its relaxed pace and the opportunity to explore the island's unspoiled natural environment. Beaches with white sands, waves for surfing, numerous and diverse snorkeling and diving locations and the magnificent Rinjani are ideals for real escapade.
